Ravenhill Herb Farm

Seed Saving Workshop

September 15 2013
10am-3pm
$40-$60 (sliding scale) *
w/ Jessy Delleman & Jesse Howardson

Geared for home gardeners with no prior seed saving experience, this hands-on workshop is designed to provide you with skills towards greater seed self-sufficiency. Topics discussed will include basic botany, pollination types, plant-breeding vs seed-saving, harvesting techniques, and seed cleaning and storage.

We’ll address some of the broader reasons for and implications of home seed saving, as well as cover basic plant and seed biology. A significant portion of the day will be devoted to hands-on learning in the herb and vegetable gardens at Ravenhill. You’ll leave this workshop with concrete skills to save your own seed and guidance in where to continue learning. Dialogue, questions and sharing of knowledge between all participants is encouraged!

In addition to written materials, each participant will have a choice of one seed variety to take home at the end of the workshop.

*work-trade options are also available.
